Los Angeles Clippers 73 Final
Recap | Box Score
98 Toronto Raptors
Amir Johnson, PF 37 MIN | 7-9 FG | 5-8 FT | 16 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 19 PTS | +27

Absolutely killed it tonight. Amir was a monster on the boards to the tune of 16 rebounds, and effectively shut down Blake Griffin. This was one of Amir's most complete games of the season, and was a big reason this game got out of hand.

Landry Fields, SF 15 MIN | 3-4 FG | 1-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | +5

FIELDS HIT A 3! FIELDS HIT A 3! Beyond that surprising shot on the dime from Aaron Gray, Fields was solid when called upon at the beginning of the first and third quarters. No issues with him today, but he should expect to see less minutes from now on (obviously).

Aaron Gray, C 25 MIN | 3-6 FG | 1-2 FT | 12 REB | 4 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 7 PTS | +10

Gray must think he's Dwight Howard (good version) the past three games. Another great game for AG, who actually looked pretty good when Lowry called plays for him on offence. There is nothing more we can ask from the big pick-setter, and as Devlin has mentioned, we don't even need to worry about his next contract for another year!

Kyle Lowry, PG 32 MIN | 1-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 8 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | +28

Lowry didn't put up the big numbers tonight, shooting just 1/6 without even getting to the line. However, he seemed to facilitate the offense quite nicely, piling up 8 assists. He must be happy to play with Gay, and I'm sure we'll see the two of them put together some pretty plays in the future. The one shot he did hit was a deep 3, which was pretty sick. Lowry also did a fantastic job shutting down Eric Bledsoe.

DeMar DeRozan, SG 34 MIN | 8-17 FG | 1-1 FT | 2 REB | 7 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 19 PTS | +31

DeRozan looked awesome tonight. He hit two 3s, played good D on Willie Green and picked the right spots to cut/drive. He's been putting up good assist totals recently, which is important with Gay entering the rotation. The two of them had some nice early chemistry, connecting on a couple alley-oops in the first quarter.

Rudy Gay, SF 33 MIN | 8-16 FG | 1-2 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 20 PTS | +20

This type of game is about what you can expect from Gay, night in and night out. He'll put up shots, put up points, and play sound defence along the way. He also managed to sprinkle in a couple nice dunks (see DeRozan) and hit a buzzer beater three at the end of third quarter. You can call him the BIG SHOT TAKER, BIG SHOT MAKER.

Quincy Acy, SF 2 MIN | 0-1 FG | 1-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 1 PTS | -2

This is an incomplete. Took a jumper to try to get the fans pizza, and missed. Oh well. With Andrea and Jonas back, these 2 minutes will start becoming the norm again.

Jonas Valanciunas, C 13 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 0 PTS | +14

Had one of the weirdest stat lines you'll ever see in piling up 3 rebounds, 4 fouls, and yet was +14. It was good to see him back on the court, and he played decent defence on Griffin despite the four fouls. I would love to see him get back at Caron Butler for that move at the end of the game.

John Lucas, PG 19 MIN | 6-9 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 17 PTS | +3

LUUUUUUCCCCAAAAS. Hey, if he doesn't want to pass, he better put up 17 points. Five threes was a nice touch, and he even hit one from what seemed like 35-40 feet away from the basket. This is his time to prove he is a viable backup PG.

Alan Anderson, SG 13 MIN | 0-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -5

Only took four shots this game, and had what seemed like a career high 3 assists. He seems rattled about his newfound lack of playing time. Was by far the worst Raptor out there tonight, not that thats saying much since they all played so well.

Terrence Ross, SG 15 MIN | 2-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 4 PTS | -6

Ross cut well to the basket tonight, just couldn't seem to finish. He had an emphatic dunk toward the end of the fourth quarter, and the best Ross news today was Dwyane Wade saying that Ross is the top candidate for the dunk contest in the East.

Dwane Casey

This game was exactly how Casey likes it. The Raptors pushed the tempo on offence, and played stellar defence, limiting the Clippers to a season low 73 points. No issues with rotations this game. Casey is probably one happy man right now.

Three Things We Saw

  1. Complete dominance by the Raptors against a top team in the league. The Rudy Gay era starts off perfectly.
  2. Did the Raptors just automatically become Lob City? They beat the Clippers, and look to be one of the most exciting teams in the league with the addition of Gay.
  3. At the end of the game, while the Raptors were running the clock, Caron Butler pretended to shake Valanciunas's hand, then stole the ball, leading to a clear path foul and 2 free throws. What a Bush League Play. I hope Val stands up for himself in this meeting next year.
